I am so frickin’ excited!! I’m sitting out in the backyard, and my black-mouth cur is just pacing around under my HUGE fig tree with his nose straight up in the air. I hoped I was right . . . as I had already started looking for them a month or so back.
Walking out in the yard and standing under the huge canopy of this odd tree, as we look up, my husband and I see two baby owlettes. Upon further inspection, we found two more, a little better camouflaged.
I feel so lucky that the owls chose my little corner thicket and huge fig tree to raise their little family in again.
They garnered a lot of excitement last year, so thought I’d share my privilege ๐ Hopefully more pics soon!!
Just something I was thinking about . . .ย โฎ
Wow!they are amazing Sadie. I didn’t think that Owls would nest anywhere around humans. They must have sensed you are special. ๐

Paul – they are truly amazing & I feel so blessed that I have had the opportunity to see them up close as I have. A few days after I took these pics, my dog was outside & he kept jumping up in the tree trying to get them – well I haven’t seen them since. Pretty sure their momma moved them, though probably still there in the thicket, where we can’t see them. But I did get to them once ๐ If the truth be known, I told my husband not to leave the dog out & while I was gone he let him out & forgot – yeah we had a few words about that . . . ๐ I hope they come back next year . . . here’s hoping!! ๐

Fig trees & owls a great combination. We have a live oak with baby screech owls. G-uno

Ooohh screech owls – do you hear them? That sounds like a great combination to me, too! We are lucky ๐

I do hear them, a most distinctive sound to come from such a tiny bird. We are lucky. ๐ G-uno

I love them all – but it’s a bit out of the ordinary in my neighborhood to see these particular birds. Would’ve never found them without the dog – he smelled them & alerted me to a new intruder ๐ He also scared them out of sight this year . . .

We had a family of little Screech owls in a catalpa tree while we lived in Iowa. Very hard to see in daytime, but they were very active at night. Fun to watch, you are lucky to have them again. You must be good landlords. ๐

I hope so DSS & hope they come again next year. The dog was quite UN-neighborly & I haven’t seen them since I took the pics above . . . Yeah not happy with the dog!!!
