These Maps Show Every Country’s Most Valuable Exports

This is interesting information . . . and the data was gathered from the CIA Factbook of all places. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a CIA Factbook, makes me want to do some researching on that 😉 Just something I was thinking about . . .

TIME

Ever wonder what exports ultimately bring in the most money around the world? For many countries, it’s obviously oil, but for others, commodities ranging from soybeans to opium to diamonds bring in the most cash.

To visualize this information, GlobalPost gathered data from the CIA Factbook to determine each nation’s highest valued export, and then created a series of maps.

See the results broken down by region:

  1. Yeah, the CIA Factbook is an amazing resource. I got introduced to it while doing a business degree and have continued to use it for research since. The shear volume of information and constant updates are mindboggling. One minor thing to keep in mind – when the desired info is qualitative (i.e. assessment of government effectiveness) it is from the perspective of the CIA and is bound to be biased. Even so the info is the best and quantitative stuff is a virtual gold mine. Have fun but be forewarned- once you start to read, hours will pass without you noticing.

    1. Thanks for that info Paul!! Your background sounds quite interesting – probably why I always enjoy your comments so much! Where might I get my hands on this Factbook?
