I Got You Babe – Song Lyric Sunday

Oh Happy Sunday!!!

I’ve been trying to get back in the saddle and swing, and Song Lyric Sunday is one of my favorite exercises in sharing šŸ™‚ Ā Helen Espinosa hosts this great prompt idea.

I wrote a post for my other blog – Windchimes and Dreamcatchers, and it really got me to thinking. On that platform, I post poetry, fiction, romance, and writing prompts that I don’t think fit the platform of this blog, and usually never anything personal. As I was working on it, I wrote one line that just hit home something fierce šŸ™‚

Helen’s prompt for today is to share a LOVE song in honor of Valentine’s Day (and her upcoming wedding – YAY!!)

I’ve been with my husband going on 40 years. We met when I was 16, he was 18; we got our first apartment when I was 17. Neither of us could wait to get out on our own and live our own lives – together šŸ™‚ Though we didn’t makeĀ much money, we managed and still had enough to have quite a bit of fun close to home. We were together about eight years when we decided to start our little family.

Though I couldn’t begin to count all the love songs that have been close to my heart for different reasons at different times, I have a fewĀ all-time favorites. I shared a couple of those on my other blog, yeah, I said a couple šŸ˜‰

As I was writing a line below the video for Sonny & Cher’s I Got You Babe, and listening to the song, I couldn’t help but tear up. This was our song from the very beginning. It wasn’t all that old in 1978, we really were pretty young. But something about when we talked (and when we didn’t), we just knew we were soulmates – and yes I believe in that sort of thing šŸ™‚

It’s just a simple little ditty, some might even say corny now – but it is so much more. So, here it is, the song that probably would be my #1 go-to love song to describe us ā¤

I Got You Babe – Performed by Sonny & Cher

They say we’re young and we don’t know
We won’t find out until we grow
Well I don’t know if all that’s true
‘Cause you got me, and baby I got you

Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe

They say our love won’t pay the rent
Before it’s earned, our money’s all been spent
I guess that’s so, we don’t have a pot
But at least I’m sure of all the things we got

Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe

I got flowers in the spring
I got you to wear my ring
And when I’m sad, you’re a clown
And if I get scared, you’re always around

Don’t let them say your hair’s too long
‘Cause I don’t care, with you I can’t go wrong
Then put your little hand in mine
There ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb

Babe
I got you babe
I got you babe

I got you to hold my hand
I got you to understand
I got you to walk with me
I got you to talk with me
I got you to kiss goodnight
I got you to hold me tight
I got you, I won’t let go
I got you to love me so

I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe

Gold Plated Ham – SoCS

SWNS_DONALD_RUMP_02.jpg

[I want to thank Linda Hill for her Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt today – Ham.]

Donald Trump is a ham. His ego is so huge, because his self-esteem has to overinflate itself AND be publicly acknowledged to overcome the damage done when he was the only child of five sent away. (Yeah, I threw in a little armchair psychologist there!)

Just yesterday, he ordered 350 more gold-plated Cross pens (made in China) because he has already handed out, after one use I might add, 150. My dad was in the service my entire childhood & the pens they used then & the ones government employees use now are Skilcraft – which by the way are made by blind and disabled Americans here in America. Being somewhat of a pen/pencil connoisseur, I can tell you they write just as a good as a Cross.

When we are trillions in debt, in all honesty, why are we wasting pens? Sometimes tradition has to go by the wayside when times are tough . . . I know this first hand & most recent. Every little thing adds up. I used to work as a purchaser for the government & I also know when you are given a budget & you don’t use it all they reduce your budget the next year – so you are encouraged to spend your money whether you need to that year or not – which is crazy. Think about it – if we all did that, we’d never have anything saved. Just seems so wasteful to me . . .

The President also said the media was an enemy to the people of this country. He only likes media outlets that toot his egotistical horn. How dangerous his statement is – if you don’t feel it . . . it’s dictator-speak. Not unlike that of Stalin and other ā€œleadersā€ who were destructive and evil in their throne of power.

I am a trained journalist. I fact check (through several different reliable sources) statements of fact that I write about, regardless of my own opinion. I believe in the power of journalism – NOT fake news or alternative facts, but true unbiased fact sharing journalism. There are still true journalistsĀ out there reporting the facts, even if you have to seek them out.

So I say again . . . President Trump is a ham, and too much ham will always cause bloat and discomfort and could lead to other more serious issues . . .

I’m NOT Out – Song Lyric Sunday

In honor of Song Lyric Sunday – this week’s prompt was to share a song thatĀ helps pull you out of a dark place. Ā I really enjoy this prompt – I love music and it is a huge part of my life.

I have so many songs that I listen to when I am in a dark place (for differing reasons), so I had a hard time picking one out. Lately, this little ditty – though short on verse, is long on energy with its driving beat – has been part of my play list. Hope you enjoy it šŸ™‚

I’m Down byĀ The Almost

Lyrics courtesy of Google PLay Music
I had a dream I was giving up
I had a hole in my side
A shallow grave would be just enough
To bury me and my pride
I’m down, but I’m not out I’m down
Don’t count me out
I feel so desperate to waste this day
I ain’t got nothing to lose, no
I feel like giving it all away
Cause I got nothing to prove
Don’t even know who I am no more
Can’t recognize my own face
I’d burn it all and just walk away
For a moment of grace
I’m down, but I’m not out I’m down
Don’t count me out
Just something I was thinking about . . .

My Shit’s F*ed Up

So today, one of the happiest things that happened to me was I got some cigarette coupons in the mail . . . what does that tell you . . .

My shit’s fucked up!! {Laughing just a little at that one . . .}

I’m still watching the political debates, town halls and caucuses. Heard Donald Trump’s Nevada caucus victory speech last night. Between his, “We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated,” and all his, “Winning, winning, winning . . .” I wanted to bang my head against the wall and vomit. Really . . . every time he talks about winning, I see Charlie Sheen and his bat-shit crazy public unraveling. And the American people are falling for it, even the highly educated – tripping over themselves to jump on his bandwagon.

And this fight over the newly vacated Supreme Court Justice seat not hours after Judge Scalia passed away is ridiculous. The Republicans keep dragging their heels deep, and the deeper they drag, the higher Trump goes in the polls.

Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are still running a close race, for now. I keep trying to get me a Bernie t-shirt to wear and freak out all my family (and many of my friends!), but they haven’t hadĀ the ones I want in my size the last few times I checked his site.

In honor of Linda Hill’s One-Liner Wednesday Ā . . . our shit’s fucked up, people!!!

No Mother – One-Liner Wednesday

ferguson-thug

So I keep seeing this picture on Facebook, and I’m not sure where exactly it came from or how “authentic” it is. But the first time I saw it, I just had one thoughtĀ . . .

No mother should have to fear for any of their loved ones lives because someone else’s son robs a store, regardless of race.Ā

Anyway, just something I was thinking about . . .

[Written for Linda Hill’s One-Liner Wednesday, though it’s neither funny or inspirational per say, so I didn’t exactly follow the rules this time.]

I’m Doing it – NaNoWriMo

Participant-2014-Web-Banner (1)

I’m doing it! I’m going to attempt NaNoWriMo again for the like the 4th, maybe 5th time. I was always working before, so it really was hard. Last year, I was still in a daze, but this year, I can’t help but wonder if this is destined to happen šŸ˜‰

It’s really fun, this National Novel Writing Month annual event that started in 1999. So, even though I have some really interesting things on my agenda to share with you, I may be a bit MIA even more than normal this next month – yeah I know, you never know what to expect from me . . . sorry — though I kind of like it LOL šŸ˜‰ (Like today for example, you get to hear from me two or maybe even three times – that’s a record!!)

If you want to join me in this journey to attempt 50,000 words in 30 days, the links are provided above. Notice, I did say attempt – though I am going to work it hard this year!! Maybe this is the something I felt coming, hell who knows šŸ˜‰

Wish me luck!!eyes

Autumn Leaves – The Politics at Hand

VoterApathy-610x495

Sept 21 WordPress Daily Prompt: Autumn Leaves

Changing colors, dropping temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes: do these mainstays of Fall fill your heart with warmth — or with dread?

I have mentioned that politics do not dominate my landscape per say. But I have to admit, when I read this prompt, I couldn’t help but think of politics and how the mid-term elections are coming up. I have also heard that mid-term elections typically have poor turnouts, which I understand, as I myself have skipped a few over the years.

I have to tell you, I am now making it my business to know who is running and who I am voting for. We have got to start instilling some change in this country, in the way problems/issues/legislative actions are approached and then dispositioned, in the way those who WE elect into office represent us once they are elected, and in the way we are actually represented overall as a whole – a constituency.

This takes a lot of research and a lot of time, but I am dedicated to it. I can’t afford not to – none of us can! Complacency leads to neglect, which leads to contempt – I can promise you, not because I want it to,Ā but because it does.

Regardless of how you vote, and what your ideologies are – you have to ensure you educate yourself and make your voice heard. The ā€œOld Guardā€ just doesn’t have their hand on the pulse of America, and they certainly aren’t hearing us.

UNDERSTAND, ADAPT and SURVIVE: Re-* (SoCS)

Response to Stream of Consciousness Saturday Ā (SoCS) writing prompt ā€“ā€œ The prefix, re-.Ā  Add whatever you want to the end of it and away you go!ā€Ā  Ā If you’re interested, go on over to Linda’s Blog and read the rules to participate šŸ™‚

IamStrong

After listing a few ā€œreā€-words, it’s easy to see – words using prefixes with re- are just another way of saying doing it again. At first thought, this seems wasteful – wasting time, energy, money, materials. Upon reexamination though, many ā€œreā€-words are expressions of survival, adaptation, working through problems – all actions important to be successful in life and understand how to cope with Ā certain disappointments with Ā careers, relationships, passions, dreams, goals, and other journeys people take through their lifetimes.

Relive the joys

Rejuvenate your energy

React after counting to 10

Reapply concepts that worked

Retrain your mind

Reevaluate your goals

Redefine your career/life choice, as you grow

Remake your ā€œpublicā€ image

Resupply your self-esteem

Replay your dreams

Review your affairs regularly

Reflex and intuition can be trusted

Reset your response clock

Rewrite your destiny

Revisit the past, especially the best parts

Reappear in someone’s life

Research your needs

Rewind your negative attitudes

Rebuild flailing relationships

Rearrange your priorities

Revise your plan as needed

Refill your happy cup frequently

Reinvent your life

Rerun the traditions you value

Regroup when frustration sets in

Relax your expectations

Reassess your weaknesses

Reinforce your faith and trust

I don’t know, this is just me writing stream of consciousness, but seems to make sense. Maybe overall, a good philosophy. What do you think?

Young Fearless Free Spirit

Today’sĀ prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: young, old, or anything to do with age.Ā

When I was young I was fearless! I mean really truly fearless andĀ as wild and free-spirited as an unbroken pony. As I got older, and had my child, my mindset changed. I was now responsible for another life, one that was helpless and knew nothing. I was also responsible for ensuring that I kept myself healthy and safe, as this new little person was dependent on me for everything.

As she got older, I must admit, I got even more cautious, as the world became a scarier place than when I was a child. I had a great many fears and concerns about the world and how it might affect my child.

Now my child is an adult, and she has two little girls, and I am even more concerned about their future as the world continues to change in ways I do not feel comfortable with. There are way too many bad things and bad people out there, especially for two little innocent babies.

Being unemployed and having no health insurance has made me even more vigilant and cautious about the things I do and the places and situations I put myself in. I have a lot more to lose than I did in my 20s and 30s.

My husband and I laugh sometimes because my daughter thinks I am so over-protective. She has no idea what a free spirit I used to be! I think she would be shocked, if she had any idea!

I’m also getting weary of holding my tongue, something I never did when I was younger, but once I hit my 40s, realized it was better not to say everything I was thinking – some people don’t appreciate honesty and bluntness. But after so many years of holding my tongue, sometimes I feel like there’s a rug on my back and people are just wiping their feet on it . . . (Maybe one of the many reasons I started blogging!!)

Next month, in a couple weeks as a matter of fact, I will have a birthday – turning 53 this year. I can honestly say that I certainly am feeling the years. Things creak and crack a lot, and some of my hand strength has diminished. I have been so cautious for so long, I feel a wild hair burning in my soul and I am chomping at the bit to do something a little crazy, a little wild, a bit spontaneous. I can feel that fire burning inside me.

Something’s coming – maybe something unexpected, maybe not, who knows, but . . . I can feel it!!

Just something I was thinking about Ā (unedited šŸ˜‰ ) . . . ☮
